Any existing players want to introduce themselves to prospective members to give them a flavour of the club and how they feel it is??? It would be good to share reasons why members are with us and stay with us, and let the new guys know what to expect in training / games etc - talk about anything really.
Personally, i always want to make new members of any standard as welcome as possible, and as long as everyone enjoys playing and has a good time that's the main goal. when the season starts we all want to win, and our training sessions will reflect this, but not everyone is expected or wants to play competitively which is fine - but they are still welcome to come to training and they can practice seperately when we do team stuff if time and space allows.
Any more thoughts?

I'll reply on this.
Any new member who is reading this then I am Rich, or Fingers as I am more affectionately known, and am centre/forward for the team. Usually am the one who is wearing a headband as my hair is sometimes out of control!!
Anyway, about Revolution. First thing to know about me is that I am fairly new to the team too. Have only played for a one and half seasons. I live in Exeter and even though there are two teams in Exeter, one in Broadclyst and the team that won the league and cup last year in Torbay (all have asked me to play for them next year as they are closer than Taunton), I want to play my basketball in Taunton with the guys from the Revolution.
There is a lot of potential in the squad to perform well and all the guys are great. Shane, our coach, learnt a lot last year in his first season coaching any team and the best thing of all is that he is wanting to learn more to help us as a team which he definitely does.
The players themselves, and I would like to include myself in this, are very approachable and willing to try and help those with less experience develop skills or understanding for the game.
Our approach to training is changing slightly, but definitely in a good way, with more structure to it and the whole team WANTING to improve their game, from shooting to fitness to defence etc and working hard to achieve it.
Anyway it is a really friendly club and lots of other things go on too (we've had two days in the past 6 months with the Streetball Extreme crew which have been a great laugh) so if you are thinking about coming down then do as you hopefully won't regret it ... I know I don't! |

Im Graham - I'm the chunky one of the team, i too am new to the team, and was the youngest member of the team last year.
In my first year i recieved a lot of help from the guys to help progress my skills and with the new structure to training i hope to improve more and more.
Next year i'm going to be moving to Bristol to complete my university course, but because of the team i'm going to be making every effort to come back and train and play in as many games as possible! Taunton Revolution is a great team to play for and hope that anyone new to the team can take as much as i did out of it because i had a great time in my first year.
Hope to see many of the new guys on the court in training and in the games. _________________

I am Ben...the one who collects the money!!! I have been with the team since the beginning and have developed my game to a comfortable level whilst I have been with the team, taking advantage of the wealth of experience within the club. As a team I believe our approach has always been give us your all and you will have fun at the club. We have a lot of players that are competative in a fun and encouraging way and always try to help each other and have a laugh.
If you have any questions at training whether it be about the drills we are running, game situatuions or something outside of basketball then we will always be willing to listen and offer our advice (Although Fingers might want to charge you for his ).
As always we welcome new members whether you are interested in playing competatively or just for fitness.
See you at training, and remember if you don't ask we can't help you! |

As Captain of the team, i would hope that upon your first visit you feel welcome - that's important. Then, we want to make sure we cater for all standards and ages which is hard. But, we need to make sure those just coming casually etc are allowed to, but those players involved in the competitive side train hard, improve and strive to win, because as a team this is our aim.
We all want to enjoy it, so i guess the only way this will happen is by communication - we need to tell Myself / the coach / and everyone what we enjoy, don't enjoy and what we would like to change if anything and then our sessions and the way we are constantly changes to meet players' demands.
You can't please all the people all the time, that may be true - but we want to get as close as possible which i think for the most part, we pretty much do!!! |
